Why we're drinking this
Primitivo is a grape that’s easy to like. It’s pleasurable on the palate, and soft in texture and fruit profile. It won’t challenge your receptors, but it will keep them entertained. The grape is known as Zinfandel in the New World, and California really put it on the map. What’s remarkable about the Luccarelli is the value. It has all the hallmarks of good Zinfandel—super-ripe fruit, soft tannins, a hint of sweetness, a touch of herbs and menthol—at a house-wine price. On sale, it’s even better!

Tasting note
This is a solid and forthright dry, full-bodied, easy-drinking red wine. Give it just a bit of a chill to tame the high alcohol (14%) and emphasize the fruit. Expect ripe black and red berries, even some cherry and kirsch-like flavours. It’s got characteristic peppery spice, too, and a hint of menthol. The finish is medium in length, the acid is low, and its nicely balanced. You’ll want another sip, and another….
