Why we're drinking this
This is an Argentinian wine by way of Italy. Italian powerhouse Masi treats this wine like a Valpolicella wine from its native Veneto region. Malbec grapes are blended with some Corvina that has received a little appasimento treatment, the drying processes that concentrates and mellows the flavours. This wine is unlike many other Argentinian Malbecs—it doesn’t have the meaty weight of those high-alcohol beasts. It’s got some finesse, and is quite lovely. In case you’re wondering, Tupungato is the name of the volcanic mountain—one of the highest in the Americas—at the base of which lie the Masi vineyards.

Tasting note
Deep ruby colour shows the concentration in this wine. It’s got some hefty dark cherry on the nose, a hint of kirsch and a little sweet spice and earth. It’s ripe, but not jammy. Quite refreshing, in fact, a little playful. It’s nicely balanced, with medium acid and soft tannins. This rates very high on the quaffable meter. And for two bucks off, this is a real nice deal.
