Why we're drinking this
For summer, we like crisp wines that may be on the lighter side in terms of alcohol heft, but by no means do we want to compromise on flavour intensity. Verdicchio is an indigenous Italian grape that can deliver bracing acidity, but do it in harmony with nicely concentrated flavours. In fact, Verdicchio can be aged for several years as it evolves a unique nuttiness. However, this particular wine, the Fazi Battaglia, is ready to go right now. It’s made for immediate enjoyment. But don’t let its rather gimmicky amphora-shaped bottle fool you. This is a really nice wine at a great price, even without the buck off.

Tasting note
The nose greets you with nice dried grass and citrus wafts that are eminently enjoyable. It’s got a lovely perfume, and that lime zest really gets you excited for a taste. Expect more citrus on the palate, with a little peach and some nice, saliva-inducing wet-stone character (aka, minerality). There’s some texture here, too. It’s light, but has some presence in the mouth. Refreshing and lip-smacking, you might say.
