Why we're drinking this
We loved it last summer, and we’re loving it again in this vintage 2012 incarnation. The values coming from Chile are astounding and there’s no doubt that this wine can go nose to nose with California or French wines that cost twice as much. Which isn’t to say this wine tastes the same as those wines. Indeed, Chilean cabs really do have their own identify, a savoury quality and a silky smoothness that is irresistible. You’ll want to drink this wine now, but you could age it a few years too.

Tasting note
This is primarily a Cabernet Sauvignon, with a mere 4% Syrah and 1% Cot added for a little lift and structure. But you don’t need to know that, and it won’t be on the test. Enjoy this wine for its gorgeous perfume of blackberries, black currants and vanilla (that’s some nice oak there). In the mouth, you’ll get juicy blackberry and plum backed with savoury dried herbs, more vanilla, and a little smoke and tobacco. What’s nice about this wine is that it’s serious stuff, but it’s so fun to drink that you don’t need to get all cerebral about it. Just know this: Chile is kicking butt these days. Cheers to that!
