Ripe fruit (red cherry, blackberry, raspberry) with a meaty nose. Full bodied and intense, with muscular tannins.
As the party winds down and only the strong remain, this will add a much-needed boost to end the night with impromptu games and laughter.
The last little bits from the cheese plate, a midnight snack, or leftover turkey sandwiches with cranberry chutney.
Why we're drinking this
King’s Court is a family owned winery based in Niagara, with seven generations of winemaking experience and a long German heritage that can be traced back to 1723. Josef Zimmermann immigrated to Canada in the 70s, then started King’s Court in 1988 — naming the winery after the German ‘Königswingert’ or King’s Vineyard. They are making their Kwaf debut with a Cab Franc that will satisfy most any red fan, from the casual sipper to serious cellar curators. Cabernet Franc thrives in Ontario — due in part to our climate and geography, but also the experience of world-class wineries. This is a beautiful expression of Cabernet Franc, absolutely spot on in terms of flavour and texture. A wine fit for a “king” we would say.
It’s a remarkable wine that’s refreshingly fruity, dark, and mysterious — all at the same time. The structure is all there, with balanced medium tannins, good acidity, and a supple mouthfeel. The finish is long and perfectly tuned.
