Why we're drinking this
Hinterbrook Winery’s NOMAD brand is not only beautifully packaged — the blank label really represents their whole minimalist style — but the wines are equally unique and referential to the land their grapes are grown on. The award-winning winery takes eco-stewardship seriously, with a state-of-the-art winery powered by solar, geothermal energy,
and water-saving practices. The 2016 vintage proved to be a great year for the estate-grown Cabernet Franc. The autumnal warmth of Lake Ontario allowed for extending hang time almost into November for a harvest of ultra-clean fruit. Outstanding flavour came with ideal acidity, aligning with the NOMAD philosophy of letting the vineyard itself do the work.
Aromas of blueberries and spice wrapped in wisps of smoke and graphite, with hints of savouriness that builds. On the palate, following a burst of black cherries, you’ll find layers of raspberry sauce, tomato leaf, bramble, and finally, delicate forest floor impressions. Dry, medium-bodied, with refined tannins accentuates the harmony of the wine. A pure, natural expression of Cabernet Franc that thrives in Niagara and is a true reflection of the winemaker’s respect and philosophy.
