Berries-a-plenty! Blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry, plus a touch of mocha/vanilla with a warming sweet spice and a touch of toasted oak. Well structured with forthright tannins.
When singing “let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…”. This is your perfect winter red that can handle some years in the cellar before being opened during a whiteout winter blizzard.
Earth-toned foods, with mushrooms and herbs. Try oven-roasted eggplant and risotto, or spicy black bean burgers.
Why we're drinking this
Pelee Island Winery enjoys legendary status among Ontario wineries, with 550 acres of estate-owned vineyards located in Canada’s oldest wine-growing region. It’s also the warmest, most southerly region for grape growing, and a gorgeous place to visit. Shiraz (or Syrah, in this case) is a grape that can grow well in Canada. Pelee Island has a deft touch with both grapes and, most importantly, the warm vineyards in which they thrive. This is a big, crunchy wine in the Aussie tradition, with gobs of fruit and personality to boot.
All varietals shine here. You will taste the full-bodied blackcurrant of the Cabernet Sauvignon, the spicy earthiness of the Syrah, the dark and mysterious floral aromas of Petit Verdot, and the plum notes and tannins of the Malbec.
