Explosive and Jaw-Dropping!
Sultry dark berries and juicy cherries, a touch of cedar, and some delicate tobacco notes. The finish is long with subtle notes of spice, smoke, mocha and leather.
An intimate dinner that will be dramatically elevated by its presence. A great wine like this deserves the company of your nearest and dearest, so go ahead, and take the time to reconnect.
Savoury dishes that will greatly amplify the wine’s flavour. Herb coated and roasted mushroom, eggplant, and squash, or slow-braised meats and stews, will all be a great match. The bright acidity will balance rich marinades, sauces, or gravies.
Why we're drinking this
Each vintage of this wine is a surprise. It’s always a big and fun-to-drink wine, but the small details and subtle nuances vary from vintage to vintage. With this 2016, the style is Bordeaux-like and quite traditional. French winemaker, JL Groux, built this year’s blend with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance composed of Cab Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot (plus a few other sun-dried grapes, for good measure). The result is true beauty and a simply delicious adventure.
A modern-day Bordeaux-style wine that’s decidedly Ontario in origin. You get bold and dark berries with blackberry and raspberry, alongside hints of mocha and leather. It’s the best of both worlds: fruity and earthy. There’s plenty of fruit and structure to take on big food flavours, along with a supple texture making it a well-balanced, enjoyable wine to sip that’s long on finish.
