  • ONE HOT SUMMER SIX’ER

    Why we're drinking this
It’s no secret we love our local wineries, and this mixed pack offers up a delicious array of top quality juice to keep you hydrated this summer (and at a price point that’s pretty easy on the wallet). Each has been finely crafted, showcasing the best of Ontario terroir—from a spunky Sauvignon Blanc from Creek Shores to a velvety Cabernet blend from Pelee Island. And each wine has been carefully selected by the Taste Buds to complement all those perfect summer moments dockside, poolside or a/c chilling inside.

Ships weekly to your home, cottage or office starting Thursday, July 7.

Stratus 2011 Petit Verdot: This one is a real treat. Originating in Southern France, Petit Verdot is best known as a blend in some Bordeaux wines, where this powerful little grape imparts intense colour, tannin and structure to the overall mix. But Stratus offers this massive 100 percent PV that’s a mind-boggler of deliciousness.
Tastes like: Fresh plum and black cherry, dried blackberries and prune, spice and animal/barnyard notes. Finishes with a kick of cedar plank. 90+ points!

Calamus 2013 Cabernet: Let’s face it. Summer and Cabernet don’t always see eye to eye. But this wine from Calamus has a freshness and verve that’s perfect for an open-air barbecue on a warm evening. The Cabernet Franc lends some nice spice and herbaceousness, while the Merlot brings some supple weight.
Tastes like: Red and black fruit (black berries, raspberries) and spice bolstered with just a titch of vanilla. Forthright — a precise little wine. 88 points.

Pelee Island 2012 Vinedressers Meritage: Though it sounds like an old-world term, “Meritage” is actually a recent addition to wine nomenclature, referring to a blend made of Bordeaux grapes. Usually that means Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as is the case here. Expect big flavours, but with finesse.
Tastes like: Deep fruity and savoury notes: raspberry, dried black berries, rhubarb and black tea. Full bodied and firmly structured with nice development. It should continue to improve another year. 88+ points.

Malivoire 2014 Small Lot Gamay: Here’s your chance to taste a stellar example of Gamay and give it your full and undivided attention. You’ll find a delicious, easy-to- love wine that’s generous on the fruit but elegant and perfectly balanced.
Tastes like: Red and black berries (lots of cran-raspberry) with a touch of savoury-spicy earth. 89 points.

Creekside Estate Winery 2015 Backayrd Sauvignon Blanc: These guys are masters of Sauvignon Blanc. And this one is a real gem. It’s easy drinking, but it’s no pushover. There’s some serious kick for your taste buds, which makes it nice for backyard shenanigans.
Tastes like: A bright and bracing lime-driven blast of fresh-cut grass, juicy apple and pine. 89 points.

Flat Rock 2013 Rusty Shed Chardonnay: Holy moly, Batman, we love this Chardonnay. Flat Rock seriously puts their money where their cork is… and we all get to enjoy wines of tremendous value. This Chardonnay is the epitome of hand-crafted.
Tastes like: Frickin’ liquid gold. That’s a cliché, but what the heck. Melon, apple, tree fruit and, wait for it… creamed corn. A bit of caramel, bracing acidity. Bang on. 88+ Points!
