Niagara Icewine Festival: A sweet way to kickoff 2019!

The Niagara region is illuminated during the month of January, as they showcase their beloved homegrown tradition: the Niagara Icewine Festival. The 24th annual event takes place over 3 weeks and runs from January 11th to 27th, during which time, winter wonderland festivities take over the region in celebration of Ontario’s icewine production.

Icewine is a sweet dessert wine, made from grapes left to freeze on the vine. Generally, the grapes are harvested between December and January, they are pressed while still frozen, making for a sweet, unique wine that's unparallel to anything else.

The Niagara Icewine Festival Gala will be held at Fallsview Casino Resort on January 11th. This winter wonderland event kicks off with an all-inclusive evening of “elegance, fine wine, and the best in Niagara culinary, with a Northern Lights theme”. The gala features over 100 of Ontario’s VQA wines from award-winning wineries.

During the three day celebration, the Niagara Icewine Festival Discovery Pass Program will allow you partake in events including over 30 Ontario wineries, with prices starting at $35. The events range from “indulgent wine & culinary pairings to roasting chestnuts & Icewine marshmallows” making for the perfect winter getaway.

Follow us all month long as we celebrate the Niagara Icewine Festival with some of our favourite icewines!
