Tastes like: The hallmarks of cabernet sauvignon—blackberry, black currant, bell pepper, with a backbeat of bacon and funky earth. Sweet spice, cigar and vanilla. Fabulous.

Good for: Telling your California cab-loving friends to put a cork in it.
Drink this: Now through 2017.
Alcohol: 13.5%
Why we're drinking this
How’s 130 years of winemaking heritage? Yeah, Concha Y Toro has a thing or two to teach the new New World winemakers. This is crystalline Cabernet Sauvignon, the purest expression of the grape you're likely to see at this price point.
Tasting note
Cab lovers will adore this. But so should casual wine drinkers. This is serious wine for the “I’ll drink anything” crowd. I mean that as a complement, to the wine and to the crowd. This has everything from ripe red, black and blue fruit to smoke, cedar, herbs and funk. The tannins are fine and integrated, and the structure is solid, almost steely—yet it yields. It’s about to peak, and should improve for a few years as things really come together.
