Why we're drinking this
First, it’s a great price. Second, Sicily flies a bit under the radar for most people. It’s one of the largest wine producing areas of Italy, but historically it’s churned out pretty awful stuff for a mass market. But this is changing. This wine embodies the new, contemporary approach. And it’s damn fine—a softer style, easy to drink. A fresher, more fruit forward wine. Perfect for spring BBQ season too, as it’ll be versatile with fare from the grill.
Tasting note
This wine is soft and easy. Translation, it feels nice and silky in the mouth, and the tannins are low. There’s nice, firm acidity, which you need for balance. Ripe red berries, dark plum and just enough heft to please lovers of “big” wines. It’s really the best of two worlds: fairly full bodied but fruity too.
