Why we're drinking this
Sometimes you just need a change. We love Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc—but there’s a world of wine out there. This is not like any of the above, yet it is eminently approachable. The wine hails from France’s Rhone region, and is made by the venerable Chapoutier family. We love just about anything they do, and this is on the LCBO’s general list, meaning it’s always in stock at most outlets. If you want a house wine that’ll make your guests go “say wha’?” then here you go.
Tasting note
This is so drinkable. It’s got a wonderful weight in the mouth. That’s the Grenache Blanc grape, and it’s bolstered with some Clairette and Bourboulenc. Never heard of them? That’s ok. Just know that they taste good. Expect some peach, pear and white flower blossoms to greet your nose. You’ll taste the same, plus some lime and a little honey, and a bit of wet stone or crushed gravel. That’s the soil talking. And you should listen.
