Why we're drinking this
Most of us have a mental barrier about paying more than $20 for wine, so at two bucks off, this gorgeous cab drops under the wire and everyone is happy. Chilean wines are generally very good value, and this is no exception even at full price. The 2011 vintage was rated 93 points by Wine Spectator magazine. So let’s see how 2012 is doing…
Tasting note
The 2012 Marques de Casa Concha is a big Cab through and through. It’s deep ruby, with massive aromas of ripe fresh plum, blackberry and black currant. It’s spicy, savoury and complex on the nose and palate, and the sweet vanilla notes carry with them some lovely perfumed red berry scents and a touch of herbal elements. This wine is generous and dripping with juicy flavours, but also has those complex earthy tones that come from top quality grapes and careful oak aging. It’s velvety, delicious, with soft ripe tannins. You won’t be able to stop drinking it! It’s perfect now, but should develop even more of those nice dried fruit and spice tones over the next year or two.
