Why we're drinking this
It can be damned hard to find a nice Pinot Noir under $20. We’ve said this before, and we’ll say it again. So when we can nab this LCBO staple for three bucks off, we jump on it. Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the big boys of Burgundy negociants—the guys who buy up wines from smaller makers and package it under their own brand. Quality is usually very high across their entire portfolio, so their juice is a reliable buy most of the time.
Tasting note
This is a delicate wine with subtle elegance. It’s a textbook example of what smart people love about Pinot Noir. Good Pinot rewards attention, which is to say it does not jump up and down and scream “love me!” You have to put in the effort, as with any good relationship—so take a pause and get to know this wine. It’s light in colour, delicate in fragrance and lively and juicy, with quite a bit of finesse for the price. You’ll get a lovely burst of ripe red berry fruit and a dash of that lovely Burgundy earthiness, even a little white mushroom. The finish is unexpectedly long, again, for the price. A lovely wine.
