Why we're drinking this
When you feel like a little glass of wine, but don’t want to get too tipsy, Moscato d’Asti is the way to go. This is a delightful sweet wine made in Northern Italy, specifically the town of Asti. It's low in alcohol — fermentation is halted before all of the sugars are converted to alcohol — and medium sweet. Best of all, it retains a little spritz — frizzante, as the Italians like to call it. Serve super cold, or keep it in an ice bucket on your patio. Moscato d’Asti is the perfect refresher on a warm day — it adds just the right amount of occasion to a casual afternoon.

Tasting note
An inviting waft of pear, ginger and peach gives way to flavours of apricot, a little citrus and more of that lovely stone fruit. A supple feel in the mouth is complemented by that wonderful spritz, just the most delicate dose of bubbles. The wine is sweet, but not overly. You need to keep it cold to get the full refreshing effect. It’s the kind of wine you just want to keep smelling. That muscat perfume is irresistible. We think Moscato d’Asti is best enjoyed on its own, but you could do ok with light desserts and even a platter of cheeses. If you’ve not tried this style of wine before, this is the perfect time. At a great price, and while the weather is still at least a bit summery.
