Why we're drinking this
This is the “house wine” made by the venerable Perrin Family, one of the largest and deeply rooted wine concerns in the Rhône region. They make highly respected wines across many categories, including ultra-premium Châteauneuf-du-Pape reds that are highly coveted. So when they make an entry level wine, you’ve got the full weight of a serious wine house staking putting their reputation on the line. This is a workaday white wine made from relatively obscure Rhône grapes: Bourbalenc, Ugni Blanc, Vermentino and Grenache Blanc. They see just a touch of oak (about 10%). What we like about this wine is its vintage variation. It’s never the exact same wine year to year. This 2014 vintage is particularly expressive, one of the best we’ve tasted lately.

Tasting note
Quite an expressive nose of medium lime, banana, lemon curd and crab apple, with a touch of fresh herbs, nuts and wet stone. That’s a pretty complex nose for the price, and it follows through on the palate with ample apple/citrus and a lovely seam of acidity. It’s medium weight and quite refreshing. Great as a sipper and also nice with some basic dishes from root vegetable soup to grilled cheese to omelets and creamy pastas. Just a fun easy wine backed up with some quite complex flavours. And at a fantastic price.
