Why we're drinking this
When you need a big warm wintery wine, you go Goat. Cheap enough for the post-xmas wallet crunch, big enough to go with the meat you crave, warm enough (14% alcohol) to keep you rosy. The Goats do Roam brand is brought to you by Fairview, a centuries-old winery in South Africa. This is their take on the Rhône blends of Southern France. And it’s pretty damn good!

Tasting note
Sweet and spicy aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and blueberry, with coffee, mint and a whiff of cured meat. Meaty, but not “meaty,” if you get what I mean. That’s the Syrah talking — it usually has that kind of funk. But when it’s matched with lots of juicy fresh berry fruit, it all hangs together nicely — the funk, the spice and the juicy. This is pretty much a classic profile for a regional wine from the southern Rhône. Very pleasant, big bodied but soft and easy to drink. Really nice balance on this one. Cheers to 2016! Roam if you want to…
