Why we're drinking this
On a hot summer’s day, a nice little Grigio really hits the spot. And this is a nice little Grigio — at a really nice price. You should know that “Gris” and “Grigio” are the same grape but have different stylistic character. Gris usually indicates a French or Alsatian style that’s fruity and dry (though, confusingly, it can sometimes be sweet). Grigio is the Italian take, and it’s much drier, more minerally and, some might say, austere. Others might say it lacks fruit. And true enough, some Grigios seem to lack not only fruit, but pretty much any quality that might indicate that it is indeed wine. These should be avoided. Good Grigio may be light on fruit, but it comes through bright acidity and some gently hints of peach, apple and spice.

Tasting note
Pale bright lemon colour, with lovely delicate aromas of pear, melon, white flowers and green apple. The aromas are precise and enticing. The wine is medium-bodied, with good balance of acidity and juicy flavours of juicy apple, lime, pear and fresh apricot. There’s just a hint of sweet here (8 grams of residual sugar per litre), which takes it out of the super-dry category. But it’s all in balance, and that just perceptible sweetness works perfectly.
