Buying Wine for Dad

Celebrate Father's Day With Great Wine

Every year, right before we officially welcome in the summer months, we take a Sunday to celebrate Dad. Whether the Dad in your life is your own father, your husband, your in-law, or otherwise – let’s take the time to enjoy Dads! One way we like to celebrate any occasion is of course, with great wine. And Father’s Day is no different. If you don’t know what bottles to pick up for Dad though it can be a tricky trip to the liquor store. Luckily we are here to guide you with a Father’s Day Wine Guide.

The Dad Who Loves to Grill

It’s no surprise that many Dads love to get out on the deck in the summer and fire up the grill. It’s a tradition old as time and one we’re all happy to reap the benefits of. Instead of getting Dad a new BBQ utensil set (again), why not get him some wine to pair with the great food he’s cooking? For Dads who love grilling chicken, Chardonnay is a great match you can’t go wrong with – like the Tawse 2012 Beamsville Bench Chardonnay or Stratus Tollgate 2016 Chardonnay. When it comes to pork, look for a Pinot Noir or dry rosé. If steak and sausages are more Dad’s style, we love pairing Syrah or Malbec. We have a really outstanding Malbec from Creekside that will really blow Dad away and be a very impressive addition to any steak dinner.

The Dad Who Loves to Host

Does it seem like Dad always has people coming over for dinner? Maybe the neighbours are often stopping by to visit and they never bring their own wine to drink. This is the perfect time to help Dad stock up his cellar or wine rack! You don’t want to get Dad any old wine off the shelves when he’s likely going to pop the cork on these bottles with friends. Gifting Dad with a mix of wine types is a good idea so that he has options on hand. Kwaf Favourite Creekside has a really great 2-bottle Iconoclast gift pack just in time for Father’s Day. It includes a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon and Niagara Syrah – both excellent wines from an established Ontario winery.

The Dad Who Loves to Impress

Some Dads want to show off the highlights of his cellar – and who can blame him. It’s great to have bottles in your collection that you’re proud of. Most would think that the only impressive wine also comes with a substantial price tag, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Look for bottles from smaller vineyards that have exclusive vintages or specially created blends. These may not come with a price tag out of reach. One of the wines we’re carrying for Father’s Day from Drea Wine, is a great example of something special for a Dad who likes unique bottles of wine. Each order comes with a signed bottle by the winemaker and is a wonderful addition to any cellar or dinner table.

At the end of the day, any gift for Dad is going to be appreciated. But we think it’s extra special when you get them something they aren’t expecting and of course, can share.

Still not sure what to get? Spoil Dad with some amazing Ontario wine this Father's Day. Use code DAD2019 at checkout on any gift membership over $250 and get $50 off!

Cheers to all the Dads out there. Happy Father’s Day!
