    Just because the label is so cool. OK, and the wine is stellar too. We’re big fans of Stratus, the premium winery in Niagara, that grows all its grapes on the estate and is obsessive about vineyard stewardship. Their wines are always intriguing, delicious and a touch cerebral. Winemaker JL Groux hails from the Loire region in France. He’s a master of wine blends, creating distinct and boldly flavoured wines are often a blend of five or more varieties of grapes. This Screw wine is like a junior version of their flagship wines—and it’s very much a big brother to its bigger brother. A wonderful wine, full of character and poise.

    Tasting note
    A big, blue and beautiful wine! Lots of plum, black and blue berries, blueberry jam and sweet spice. It’s opulent, rich, hedonistic. Fruit-forward but with hints of cedar and smoke, and an herbal-mint touch. Full-bodied, robust, with medium acidity and medium ripe tannins. A big wine for sipping, but with balance and savoury qualities to go well with substantial dishes, or brightly seasoned (citrus, coriander) meats and stews with lots of umami.
