Tastes likeA brilliant combination of bright, juicy red fruits and 'slatey minerality'. Pairs withGood proper Beaujolais is highly regarded as a fantastic burger wine. This will also work wonderfully with grilled fish, ham, charcuterie and cheese. Good forImpromptu summer gatherings on the deck or patio.
Why we're drinking thisLucien Lardy hails from a long line of independent grape growers and wine makers who are dedicated to expressing their land in the glass. The grapes for this wine are sourced from a single, 5-hectare parcel of 65-year-old vines situated just outside the designated Cru de Fleurie. Yields are extremely low (45 hl/ha.), ensuring intense, expressive, and characterful wines. It's also a hugely versatile food wine that will charm and delight both the wine geeks and wine novices in your life. Really, it's your ideal summer house wine. Just chill slightly, pop, and pour alongside some simple foods like cheese and charcuterie.
Tasting noteA textbook example of proper Beaujolais and a wonderful representation of what French Gamay can, and should, be. Mid-weight with a silky texture and soft acids. Aromas of red and black fruits abound, cherry, plum, blueberry. Adding intrigue and complexity are notes of granite and salty minerality from the region's unique soils. Picked by hand, and brought to the winery in small baskets, grapes begin fermentation in stainless steel tanks using only indigenous yeasts. Lightly fined with no filtering prior to bottling - it's pure joy and Burgundian terroir in a bottle.
