  Why we're drinking this
  Not only is Fielding a delightful winery to visit, with pretty vineyard vistas and a gorgeous open-space tasting room, the wines are equally impressive. And, more importantly, fun to drink. This wine is just about half-and-half Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, with 52% of the latter. It’s wonderfully balanced and generous, the kind of juicy, substantial (we like to say “structured”) wine that demands attention. The vintage in 2016 was excellent, and this wine reflects all that ripe fruit. As well, 14 months in French oak barrels (about 25% new) have layered a wonderful richness and tannin structure. With no fining or filtration, this is a big wine that will age smoothly for a decade or so.

  Tasting note
  A generous nose of plum, blackberry and blueberries, with fig and soft char-toast notes. Quite smooth and inviting in the mouth, fruity and smoky and full of richness. Still a young wine, with gritty tannins that will resolve nicely over the years. But already that smooth and elegant mouth feel is there, a lovely expression of both the Syrah and Cab Sauv. A gorgeous wine with lots of longevity.
