  Why we're drinking this
  We love a well-crafted blend. And Creekside sure does it well. As specialists in Sauvignon Blanc, they know how to coax all the “zingy” fruit flavours from this formidable grape, and as SB makes up 58% of the blend here, you get that forthright lime/citrus character and grassy note right away. But it’s tempered and mellowed by the rich, exotic elements of the other grapes. Creekside ferments the majority of the juice as separate vineyard blocks in 100% French oak barrels, and then creates the blend. The 2013 growing season was a bit crazy: lots of summer rain and high heat, but this gave way to a long dry ripening season through September and October. The result is a white that is completely unique to Creekside, and unlike any other blended white we’ve tasted from Niagara.

  Tasting note
  The nose is all Sauvignon Blanc (crisp lime, grassy herbs) with an overlay of exotic tropicals (melon, pear) that come from the Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. The latter grapes also give the wine a nice fleshy texture, almost oily (in a good way). There’s a touch of oak here, but not too much — it just adds a spicy element. Zoltan Szabo notes the “spicy fennel-menthol-cinnamon tones.” The texture of this wine matched with the fun flavour elements makes for a delightful sipper and, at the same time, a wine that goes great with summery fare like scallop ceviche, grilled salmon and flatbreads.
